Read: John 13:1-17
In many ways this passage can be difficult for us. On the one hand, we don’t usually like the idea of our Savior performing the actions of a servant. On the other, we also know that Jesus has demonstrated humble service to us as a call to join Him there.
- Discuss your reaction to this passage. What do you like about Jesus’ actions and what do you dislike?
- Christ serves as the ultimate example of a servant leader (Mark 10:45). Think about the act of washing a person’s feet. What comes to mind? What feelings do you have when you thinking of washing the feet of a sibling, friend, family member, enemy? Think about ways that Christ’s humility and desire to serve have been for your good.
Steps to take:
Spend time today thanking Jesus for His humility and willingness to serve you by sacrificing His life to give you eternal life. Do one thing today that will require you to humble yourself and serve someone.
